The Experience
Visitors are welcomed by the lush gardens with a refreshing glass of Chardonnay, sparkling wine or Rosé. From there, the host invites guests on a leisurely stroll past the vineyards to the top of the hill with one of the most breathtaking views of the Napa Valley. On most days, guests can see as far as Mount St. Helena in the distance. After a quick stop at the gravity-flow crush pad, the tour continues through Porter’s 17,000-square-foot cave, winding alongside rows of barrels and small batch stainless steel fermentation tanks. The custom punch-down system adds a unique personal touch. Tom Porter himself, a retired engineer from IBM and Seagate, designed it.
The dome shaped tasting room inside the cave is both impressive and welcoming.The wines are exceptional and reasonably priced. Highlights include their Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, and Chardonnay, along with distinctive blends like “Cave Dweller” and “Sandpiper.” A personal favorite is the Bordeaux-style blend Barre Azure, known for its finesse and balance. Their philanthropic blends, “Amani” and “Heartwork,” add meaningful depth—supporting children’s causes and reinforcing the values behind the label.
